‘Animal’ featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Bobby Deol, among others in lead roles is now out in theatres. Directed, written, and edited by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. While reviews are mixed, the film has managed to take a blockbuster mega opening. From becoming the second-biggest opener of Indian cinema for 2023 to being Ranbir’s biggest-ever film, here are 5 records broken by ‘Animal’ on day 1 of its release.

Exceeding the performance of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, Animal has secured the position of the second-fastest Hindi film to surpass the ₹100 crore nett mark at the domestic box office. According to a Sacnilk.com report, the Hindi version of Animal accumulated ₹113.12 crore nett in India within the initial two days, outpacing Shah Rukh’s Jawan, which achieved ₹111.73 crore nett in Hindi during the same time frame.

Pathaan, Animal and Jawan are top 3

In the meantime, Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 blockbuster, Pathaan, retains its lead by securing the top spot with a Hindi total of ₹123 crore nett in India within the same two-day period. Following closely are Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal (at number two) and Shah Rukh’s Jawan (at number three), making them part of the top five fastest Hindi films to cross the ₹100 crore mark. Also included in this prestigious list are Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2.

Both films achieved the remarkable feat of crossing the ₹100 crore nett mark at the domestic box office within a span of just two days each. Tiger 3, released on Diwali 2023, secured the fourth position on the list with ₹101 crore nett within the initial two days. Following closely, the Hindi version of Kannada actor Yash’s KGF sequel, released in 2022, holds the fifth spot with ₹100.74 crore nett in the same two-day timeframe.

Biggest opening despite ‘A’ certificate

Although ‘Jawan’ remains the top-grossing film on its opening day, it’s noteworthy that the movie has received a ‘U/A’ certificate. In contrast, ‘Animal’ has remarkably secured impressive records despite being granted an ‘A’ certificate in India and an adult certification in the UK, attributed to its depiction of violence and gory scenes. This marks a historic moment in Indian cinema, as ‘Animal’ becomes the first film with an ‘A’ certificate to achieve a global box office collection of Rs 100 crore on day 1.

The Vanga’s Movie

Sandeep Reddy Vanga delivered hits with the likes of ‘Arjun Reddy,’ ‘Kabir Singh,’ but a bumper opening like this is a first for the director himself. This is also the first time the director has collaborated with Ranbir Kapoor for a film.

Non Festive Opener

Another feather on the cap for ‘Animal’ is that despite it being a non-holiday release, the film managed to witness an opening like never before.

If the trade can be believed, the second day will be as exciting for ‘Animal’ at the ticket counter.
